FUNDAMENTALS OF MANAGING TECHNOLOGY VALUE - COURSE OUTLINE

This program is designed for business analysts and project managers that are involved in business case development for information technology initiatives. Digital Mosaic teaches a streamlined and practical approach to mapping the business argument, uncovering sources of value, linking this to overall corporate initiatives, and quantifying benefits. We teach students how to set up the business case so that benefits can be managed post implementation, and there is accountability from executives. Our program teaches CONSULTING FACILITATION skills - how to extract and clarify the business case presented by an executive. Our program combines techniques training and practical applied learning opportunities to give students a more repeatable, pragmatic approach to developing business cases. This includes:

  • Extracting the Business Case Roadmap: How to visually represent a business argument for analysis from initiatives to outcomes..
  • Aligning the Business Case to Strategic Drivers: Identifying the drivers and evaluating the critical path to achieving benefits from a technology initiative.
  • Fleshing out the Risks and Rewards: Identifying risks, assumptions, complementary initiatives, and controlling the realization of benefits.
  • Measuring Outcomes: Quantifying tangibles and intangible benefits.
  • Using the Roadmap as a Facilitation Tool with Executives: Structured walkthroughs, analyst role clarity, and eliciting planning assumptions.
  • Creating the Value Management Plan: Flowing the business case roadmap into a plan for managing value.

This is a full three day program conduced on the client's site. There is no pre-requisite course requirement. Students do real work during this program and bring in a real project to use as the case study on day three. This enables students to see this approach used in an executive session. Ours is an intensive program focusing as much on 1:1 mentoring as on providing practical leadership techniques. Because of this, we strictly limit attendance to 12 students maximum per session.
