COMPLETENESS TESTING
Our belief is that the documentation of a requirements specification must
stand on its own – if it cannot be consistently interpreted, then there is a
problem. We test for clarity of scope but also look below the surface to
determine if likely oversights were made and transactions which should be able
to happen were simply not documented. In an average project, (according to SEI)
30% of the scope does not get found until a project is well into the
development process. Completeness testing provides a diagnostic approach to
answering the question “How do I know that we have all the business
requirements?
There are three general approaches for clients:
1. Contract scope review: : for executives that are
contracting for smaller scale projects where they are concerned about the
completeness of the requirements specification. Digital Mosaic has a
structured approach for reviewing documentation to determine if the scope of
work is correctly defined in the contract.
2. Triage Assessment: For clients faced with a
project in a continuous state of discovery or where requirements work
has been done but is insufficiently detailed to be able to shift that work
product safely into development. Our team is engaged to diagnose the full
deliverables available, restructure the information content, detect the missing
content and then assemble a precise action plan for completing the assignment.
3. Completeness Test Protocol: For clients that have larger
initiatives or are concerned that the deliverables received by an outsourcer
cannot be safely transitioned into development without undertaking significant
risk. Digital Mosaic conducts a multistage completeness test to verify the
clarity of scope, the comprehensiveness of information, general quality of
content, and detection of missing scope elements.
